It is not only in the area of refugee housing that developments are rapidly evolving and that those responsible must respond to a changing situation. In many other areas of migration and integration as well, all stakeholders are confronted with constantly shifting conditions. Against the backdrop of legal changes and social and political debates, the Diakonie in Baden and Württemberg focused their 2026 annual migration conference in Bad Herrenalb on these developments and how practitioners can address them.
The “More Than Four Walls” project team was a guest at the conference and participated with a workshop on the topic of “Housing and Accommodation.” This provided an opportunity to engage in a discussion on this topic. Drawing on the pilot projects that are implemented as part of the initiative, participants discussed alternative ideas for housing and independent living for refugees. In doing so, they drew on experiences from daily counseling work in various municipalities across Baden-Württemberg, which served as a foundation for thinking outside the box and developing ideas on how to solve existing challenges in new ways.
