The pilot on “Move-out Management and Housing Placement” in Wuppertal is entering its next phase: with additional staff joining the taskforce, the structures developed over the course of the project so far will now be tested in practice. The “taskforce” consists of three student assistants who were hired specifically for the project and are supported by both the social work team and the accommodation team.
The aim of the “Move-out Management Taskforce” work package is to establish a functioning move-out management system that supports residents of municipal accommodation in their transition to private rental housing. The pilot will explore which tasks, skills and processes are required at the municipal level to achieve this. Experiences from the practical implementation will also be used to continuously develop and improve the structures.
As of 1 August 2026, three student assistants have joined the taskforce. During a supported onboarding phase, they are being prepared for their roles in supporting residents and facilitating housing placements, while becoming familiar with the municipality’s existing structures and processes.
A first training session took place on 1 September 2026, led by Corinna Hoeckesfeld and Michelle Balthes. The two experts contributed their practical experience in housing and accommodation for refugees, including their work with the housing project of Tür an Tür in Augsburg. The training focused on the knowledge and tools required to successfully support residents in their housing search and facilitate placements into private rental housing.
Following the training, the taskforce will begin its practical support and housing placement activities. The experiences gained during this phase will be continuously documented and incorporated into the further development of the pilot. A first joint reflection is planned for January 2027 to assess which approaches have proven effective in practice, which challenges remain, and what adjustments are needed for the next phase.
