Online Meeting of the Knowledge Network: Digitalization in Refugee Accommodation

As part of another online meeting of the Knowledge Network on January 29, 2026, the focus was on digitalization in the accommodation of refugees. Representatives from the municipalities came together to share insights into their current practices and exchange perspectives on existing approaches as well as development potential.

At the beginning of the session, two municipalities from the network provided practical input from their own work, illustrating how differently municipalities are positioned in terms of digitalization. It became clear that the range spans from simple Excel-based solutions to self-developed software applications supporting administrative processes.

In the subsequent discussion, participants addressed key questions: How can digital solutions support day-to-day work in accommodation settings? Which processes can be digitalized? And where do current challenges in implementation lie?

Reflecting on these diverse approaches enabled many municipalities to reassess their own situation and identify concrete starting points for further development. Several participants were able to define initial next steps to further advance the digitalization of their existing processes.
