How can local actors be “strong together” when it comes the admission of people seeking protection? This question was the focus of the International Rescue Committee’s online symposium “Strong Together: Local Dialogue on Reception” on November 6, 2025.
The More Than Four Walls project was represented in a keynote speech by Sonja Reinhold (project staff member) and Michaela Heinemann (representative of the pilot municipality of Main-Taunus-Kreis). The project team reported on the pilot project for the participation of refugees in shared accommodation, as well as on other project activities such as the knowledge network for municipalities.
The rest of the conference featured presentations on various projects and institutions dealing with the topics of “creating living space,” “participation and political involvement of MSOs,” “bottom-up advocacy,” and “transparent admission procedures.” Individual topics were discussed in depth in workshops.
The event was organized by the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in cooperation with the Evangelische Akademie zu Berlin and as part of the IRC project “Sicher Ankommen”, funded by the Robert Bosch Foundation.
